Sevcon proudly sponsors Royal Grammar School, Kaizen Racing

Thursday, March 26, 2015

On the 12th and 13th March, six students from the Royal Grammar School, Newcastle took part in the F1 in Schools National Finals which were held during the Big Bang Fair at the NEC in Birmingham.

F1 in Schools is an international competition in which school teams of between three and six students use CAD/CAM software to design, analyse, manufacture, test and make model compressed-air powered F1 cars.

Representing the North East as Kaizen Racing, they took part in the competition alongside the top 26 F1 teams in the country.  After two days of intense competition, they reached the quarter finals in the knockout racing, [winning in a head-to-head against the Scottish National Champions] (having been seeded 6th), and were awarded a prize for the best Research and Development in the UK.

The team learnt a lot from this competition; most of all the pleasure of successfully taking on challenges with like-minded students, who are all equally as ambitious and aim to excel in the field of engineering.

The team thanked Sevcon for being an integral part of their sponsorship portfolio; without the support and funding, they would not have been able to put in the kind of performance they did.
