Students & Graduates

At Sevcon we have many customers looking for new products and we have more development projects to do than we currently have the resources for. We are looking to continuously expand our prized engineering team to meet our customer’s needs. In order to do this we have forged strong links with Newcastle, Northumbria and Durham Universities to attract the brightest talent in our local education system.

Students selection for the scholarship opportunity takes place at the start of the first term of the second year of the course, students who have registered interest with their tutor are notified as to whether their results meet the criteria set. They are invited to submit an application, if this is successful it is followed by an interview with final selection complete before the end of the term. The selected students receive:

  • The equivalent value of annual course fees (currently £9k) ordinarily paid direct to the University
  • Paid work during holidays
  • Support with further education
  • A placement year if the course requires this
  • …and a PERMANENT JOB at the end

All we ask in return is commitment to staying with Sevcon for at least two years following graduation.

The Student Sponsorship Programme is run in strict partnership with the Universities and applications via the website cannot be accepted.

Danielle Walsh

Manchester girl Danielle Walsh was fortunate enough to become one of Sevcon’s first bursary undergraduates.

Danielle is employed as a Software Engineer at Sevcon and says: "I have enjoyed my time with Sevcon so far as a trainee, junior and now a Software Engineer. Sevcon are very supportive with my education and I will be attending more training courses in the future to help me grow with the company." She adds: Newcastle is a lovely, vibrant city with plenty of things to do all the time from the Quayside to the coast. I love it here."

Gerhard Fehringer of Northumbria Univesity says about the programme: "Sevcon’s sponsorship programme provides an excellent opportunity for our students to apply and further develop their knowledge and skills in an industrial environment. We are proud that several of our students have benefited from the programme, and we are looking forward to continued close collaboration with Sevcon in the future."
